Raising Money For Breast Cancer

Georgina Blaze Minor Bantam AE Team would like to thank all those that came out to the Al Fleming Brest Cancer Softball Softball Tournament on June 5, 2010 at West Park. The team helped raise money for the cause by running a barbecue at the tournament. Thanks to tournament participants, fans, and the hockey team for taking part in raising money for the cure.

A note from the Coach
The boys volunteered to come out and help. They kept the diamonds chalked and raked between games and helped man the BBQ as well as a group of parents. They did this with smiles. When they are team on and off the ice, WE ALL WIN.

Blaze Minor Bantam AE BBQ

On February 13th the Georgina Midget Team 2 sponsored by Keswick Home Hardware and Quick Pizza won the 2010 Woodville Hurricanes Tournament.  We put in a perfect 3-0 record with 17 goals for and 0 goals against.  Our goalie Travis Cowx played awesome throughout the tournament helping his team win this championship.  As they have done all year these players showed great effort and respect for the game.  The coaching staff and parents are very proud of the way they have represented our community.  Way to go guys.

Pee Wee Select Team win inaugural Ajax Select Christmas Tourney Dec. 27-30!

After dropping their first game 4-3, the Georgina Pee Wee Select team never looked back winning 4 straight games to win the first ever Ajax Roster Select Christmas tournament.
The team battled strong teams from Ajax, Pickering and edged a solid club from Whitby in the final game 3-1 after an empty net goal from Dion Nelson iced it late. Nelson also scored the game winner and assisted on the opening goal from Alex Moyse.
Solid goaltending, including a shutout in a 7-0 semi-final from Ryan Taylor, helped the team make it through all five games with 21 goals for and 10 against. Center Lucas Morgan also turned in a solid performance as a two-way player working both ends of the ice. Congrats to all the boys!

The Pee Wee Select team players are: Skyler Grant, Jake McGillvray, Jared Fockler, Nathan Riepp, Travis Bosscher, Dion Nelson, Lucas Morgan, Connor Phillips, Christopher Lamanna, Alex Moyse, Kurtis Mahussier, Avery Wannamaker, Connor Bennett, Quinn Chalmers, Matthew Wright, and goalies Francesco Galati and Ryan Taylor. The Bantams were also asked along with the two Georgina Novice teams that won their Silver Stick Regionals, to participate in the Olympic Torch Parade that went through Keswick on Jan 18th, this was a once in a life time experience for the boys that they will never forget!

November 22, 2009

The Georgina Blaze Atom AA Team travelled to London to take part in the Tim Hickman Memorial Tournament, hosted by the London Jr Knights. The Blaze opened the tournament with back-to-back shutout wins, and finished the Round Robin with a 3-1 record – good enough for the Wild Card spot in the semi-finals!

In the semi-finals, the Blaze took on the #1 tournament seed and previously unbeaten Mississauga Jets, winning a 2-1 thriller to advance to the finals! In the finals, the Blaze took on the North York Knights who were the only team to beat us in the Round Robin stage... The Blaze came out firing and never looked back, winning the Championship 5-2!!!

The coaching staff credited winning the tournament to a complete team effort and some incredible goaltending by both keepers!

Congratulations Blaze - Your hard work is starting to pay off!

Nov. 8 2009
The Minor Peewee AE team travelled to Flamborough for the ENERGIZER Fall Face Off on the weekend of November 5 – 8, 2009. The Blaze faced the home town team in their first game and battled to a 3-3 tie to start the tournament. On the Saturday we played TNT (4-2 win) in our first game and then up against the Hamilton Cyclones. The Blaze needed at least 4 points to advance into the semi final game and with a strong 4-1 win (Hamilton’s first loss this year)  took all 5 points moving them into the semi finals against West London. In the 4th game the Blaze kept West London off the score sheet with a 2-0 win sending them to the finals against the Waterloo Ice Wolves.

The final game (a game to remember) saw the teams tied at the end of the first period. The Blaze opened the scoring in the second period with the Waterloo team matching their goal just 1:27 later. The teams battled for the balance of the game tied 1-1 and sending it into overtime. The first overtime was a hard hitting and terrific example of team work as both teams battled scoreless. Into the second overtime we go with a 1 minute buzzer resulting  in a line change with 1 less player (no duplicate players allowed). AT the end of second overtime the score stilled tied it’s time to pull the goalies to start the 3rd period of overtime, now 1 player each NO goalies the Blaze win the faceoff and skate down the ice to score the game winning goal 7 seconds into the 3rd overtime period.

The Waterloo team was one of the best teams that we have faced this year and fought right to the end. To show the sportsmanship this team had they all lined up on both sides of the door leading off the ice and raised their sticks over the heads of the Blaze players and congratulated them as they left the ice surface
